Otel Gümüşlük sits at the westernmost tip of the Bodrum peninsula, on the cove that holds the ancient harbour and Rabbit Island. Gümüşlük is a fishing village about 25 km from central Bodrum. Coastal walks, the submerged ruins of ancient Myndos, the stone causeway to the island, and the famous Gümüşlük sunset — all within walking distance.
Ancient Myndos & Rabbit Island
Rabbit Island is the visible tip of the ancient city of Myndos. Myndos was founded some 4,000 years ago by the Lelegian civilisation and rebuilt in the 4th century BC by King Maussollos. Alexander the Great stayed at Myndos during the siege of Halicarnassus, and in 44 BC Brutus and Cassius used the island as a fleet base. You can reach the island on foot along a partly submerged Hellenistic-era stone road. Bring a hat, water, and flat shoes.
Fishing Village & Harbour
Gümüşlük is a fishing village at the westernmost tip of the Bodrum peninsula. The stone harbour walk is lined with seafood restaurants on wooden tables, cafés, and small artisan shops. The weekly market offers fresh produce, handmade crafts, and souvenirs.
The Sunset
Gümüşlük is known for its orange-and-crimson sunsets. Watch the sun drop from the terraces along the harbour, at low tables set so you can dip your feet in the water.
Activities
Boat tours leave the Gümüşlük jetty around 11:00, circling the Küçük Kiremit, Büyük Kiremit, Çavuş, and Çatal islets with swim stops, returning around 18:00 (lunch may be included). The stadium, theatre, city-wall remains, and mosaic floors of submerged Myndos can be explored with a snorkel in the clear water. You can also reach the surrounding coves and caves by sea kayak or SUP.
Coastal Walks
Rabbit Island divides Gümüşlük's two beaches, and you can cross to it on foot along the submerged stone causeway. Walking the shoreline is the most enjoyable way to take in the village's coves and the ancient harbour together.
